BUTLER TOWN INFORMATION
Made up of parts of Pequannock Township, Butler Borough was incorporated on March 13, 1901, by an Act of New Jersey Legislature. The area was originally called West Bloomingdale, and became known as Butler in 1881, in honor of industrialist Richard Butler, who was influential in the area’s growth. The building where the Butler Borough Museum is now located was originally a railroad station serving the New Jersey Midland and later the New York Susquehanna and Western, which still runs through the community.
