KINNELON TOWN INFORMATION
Established as a borough on February 20, 1922, through an Act of New Jersey Legislature, Kinnelon was originally part of Pequannock Township. It is home to the famous Tripod Rock in the Pyramid Mountain Natural Historical Area. The Tripod Rock is a 70-ton glacial erratic, 15 feet long, 12 foot wide, and eight feet high, perched on three much smaller rocks two feet above the bedrock. It is believed to be over 100,000 years old, and was a gathering place for Native Americans. Also known as Three Pillar Rock, the rock is the largest of its kind in the eastern section of the nation, and is believed to be a place of spiritual energy.
