It seems logical to assume that the small business market must shrink during a recession. In fact, the opposite is true. When asked “Who will lead us to a better future?” 63% of Americans said that entrepreneurs and small businesses would lead the way (Zogby/WeMedia poll 2/09).Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy.
Being your own boss sounds great, but most independently-owned small businesses don’t make it.There are two “Fatal Assumptions” that people make when they consider going into business:
Myth #1:If you understand the technical work of a business, you understand a business that does that technical work.
Myth #2:Owning a business will automatically bring you personal freedom.
Suddenly the thing you knew how to do so well, and maybe even enjoyed, is overshadowed by dozens of other responsibilities that you don’t know how to do at all. This is the course followed by many business owners who try to go it alone.
When considering your options, you will have to contend with frustration, fear and financial constraints, which can hold you back if you’re not careful. Also, at this point it is easy to forget about financial freedom.
Millionaires are not “self-made,” they’re “team-made.”Henry Ford is famous for admitting that the one thing he knew best was how to surround himself with good people. So who should you have on your team?A good team should include mentors who act as active coaches.
If you have the input of a good mentor or coach, you don’t have to go it alone.
Coaches make excellent team partners.Over the past ten years, coaching has gradually risen to a $1 billion industry.Clearly, there’s a real need and a real demand for coaching.
What are your Goals, Needs and Expectations and how do you intend to get there?
1.Define your goals - know where you want to go.
2.Map out your course – know how you’re going to get there.
3.Surround yourself with a knowledgeable team.
4.Explore your options - identify those opportunities that will be your vehicle to financial freedom.
At the very least, you need to educate yourself and explore alternative career options outside of traditional employment.Knowledge is power – having the right information and access to a team of knowledgeable, successful supporters is crucial to your own success.
Partnering with a coach is essential to helping you discover possibilities and options that you may never have discovered on your own.
The fact that you’ve taken the time to read this article says that something inside is urging you to take control of your destiny.Don’t silence that voice!Remember, it literally costs nothing to explore your options and to consider the possibilities for your future.
